How to solve a Sudoku from a photo

  1. Take a clear photo of the whole grid with your phone, or upload a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image.
  2. The puzzle status appears automatically after recognition. Correct numbers if needed; reviewing every cell is optional.
  3. Select “Solve Sudoku” to see the answer. You can save the solved grid as a PNG image.

Choosing a recognition mode

Choose “Original clues only” if the grid contains only the original clues. If handwritten or printed answers or small candidate numbers have been added, choose “Answers or notes added”. We’ll try to recognize only the original clues. Compare the result with the photo before solving.

The solver supports classic 9×9 and 16×16 Sudoku, plus connected grids such as Samurai Sudoku. You can also enter clues manually when a photo is difficult to read.

Questions about solving Sudoku by photo

Can I take a photo with my phone?

Yes. Open the site on your phone and select “Take photo”. Allow camera access when your browser asks.

Can I upload a photo I already have?

Yes. Select “Upload photo” and choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image up to 25 MB.

What if the puzzle already has answers or notes?

Select “Answers or notes added” before recognition. The filter tries to remove added answers and notes, but may keep extra digits or miss original clues. Check the result against the photo. Added printed digits that look exactly like the original clues cannot be distinguished from the photo.

What if a number is recognized incorrectly?

Compare the photo and grid, then tap or click the cell to correct the number before solving.
